Race Pace: Mastering Consistency In The Race Of Life

You can't push all the time; keeping the pace is what gets you there.

This piece has nothing to do with racing. I've written this to offer advice to those who may need a bit of motivation to continue their pursuits and learn the art of maintaining the right pace in whatever they're engaged in.

One of the most important things I learned throughout my formative years is consistency. In racing, there are lap times, which measure how long it takes to complete a lap, moving from point A to point B. You have cars on the grid competing and lapping the track for a specific number of times. At the end of the race, the car that crosses the finish line first emerges as the winner.

However, there's more to it than that, there's something called race pace. How consistent your lap times are on the track is what brings victories. How does this relate to life, you may ask? I often experience burnout from trying to excel at a skill, learn new ones, or work on projects. You know what happens when I get burnt out? I lose motivation, don't try as hard, and sometimes even abandon my efforts. This could have been avoided if I had applied a decent pace to whatever I was trying to do.

For example, if I was learning a new skill that would take hours and hours to master, I should approach it from a personal perspective and ask a few questions. How valuable is this skill to me? How proficient can I become within a specific timeframe? Can it be monetized? Is there a demand for it? Is it something I just want to learn for no particular reason? These questions provide me with a blueprint of what I expect to achieve from learning the skill. This, in turn, determines how much time I allocate to it each day and where I place it on my mental priority list. This reminds me of when to push harder or when to slow down and maintain a steady pace.

In life's journey, consistency and pacing are key elements. It's not about racing to the finish line, but about making steady progress in your endeavors. Finding the rhythm that works for you and staying motivated is the secret to long-lasting success. So, if you're ever in need of a little push to keep going, remember to maintain your pace and stay determined on your path to success.
